to the joys of the season

just outside my window this morning, a sudden flash of wings and beside me lands a Cooper’s Hawk, instantly I feel blessed by his honouring presence, and of course his regal beauty – mere seconds later I am a little saddened realizing he has probably swooped down to snatch up an unsuspecting sparrow.  In this brief exchange of joy and sorrow,  I realize it is in me to choose ..    how to honour,   this moment.
and so,  to you this day …

Wishing you the joys of the season,  it ‘s an expression often repeated and shared at this time of year,
and just what are these joys

family, friendships, love, beauty
peace, generosity and
presence

but for some,  family doesn’t always feel ..  like family,  and at times life can feel anything but peaceful
sometimes we can be gathered in by the sorrows of the season too
loss of loved ones, severed connections
fear, anger
cynicism and greed

as always, to this,  it seems to me,  it is in us to choose

to choose to honour  those family and friendships
that continue to bless us,
… Unconditionally

to choose not to give breath to unnecessary dramas
and words with sharp edges

and instead to celebrate love and respect
freely given
lovingly received

to choose grace and gratitude over slights
and miscommunications

to choose to see beauty and magic
in small simple gestures

to greet smiles with
smiles

to meet pain
with kindness

and to comfort great loss
with even greater Love

and in all of this, to always open our hearts
to the ebb and flow
to the joys and to the sorrows

and to be true, and honest
and gracious
in our choosing

as I gather in, in this wondrous time
of giving
I do wish you the many  Joys of the season
I also wish you comfort in your sorrows
and always,

I wish you   Love
to endure,
to sustain,
to enrich

and I will continue
to hold a place for you here
in my heart
so that you
may freely come and go …

as you choose ♥
