Tamara Willems

cherishable by its very nature…

The morning opens
on a gentle kind of day
the kind one gets in mid-to-late September
the kind one wishes to
savour

the waning later days
of
a season
cherishable by its very nature

the sky a soft, yet brilliant
blue
white clouds, both fluffy and
wisp
reflecting the shine
of the sun
a rather joyous light breeze
tickling each leaf

this morning we um…  have a gas leak fixed (gulp)
then
walk the gardens, do a bit of trimming
and
make great plans for
things to come

savouring this small window of time
shared
together

I am,
I can tell you
in my cave mode
feeling the need to crawl back, farther
in
it’s a comfy sort of space
but one where I cannot be reached
or rather
bothered
I am feeling particularly unattractive
and, as I will tell him
quite like a teapot- ‘short and stout’
my face, as I will tell it
is a mess
hot flushes and night sweats threatening
to take me
out

however, I would like to request,
to my cave
a steady stream of snacks
probably a large bag of dark chocolate covered almonds
would do
nicely
(request sent by messenger pigeon, of course)

I opt instead, for a quiet sit
by the small pond
enjoy immensely, the sounds of
silence
watch a sow bug
and a
tussock caterpillar
move
on the phlox beside my chair

offer up the words
from a distant lover
that cloak my skin
in kindness

and
kisses  ♥
