by george, is that really you…

Some days I have the feeling,
that the world outside my gate is turning
way too
fast, ya know
or that whatever else is going on out there
could just…  stay away from me
where I actually feel the need to push my arms out wide
free up
space
there’s another birthday, another
did you call your Mother
another deadline of sorts
another date to remember, another list of things
I could have done better
another work week to face
with uncertainty and awkwardness
amazed some days when I have made it through
unscathed
I sometimes have an over-active head
emotions that rise too easily to the surface
push through certain days on
overwhelm
wonder about places I have failed
and if being a kind loving person is ever
enough

I remember as a child, playing at the beach
in the waves
where just as you are reaching shore
one takes your legs out
forcefully, knocks you down
laughing, you try to regain your ground
when the next one comes
and you are
down again,
and then again,
where for an infinitesimal second, laughter becomes
fear
of weakness, exhaustion
and too much water
you are again reminded to be cautious

of undertow

joy returns just as easily though
when you can lay yourself down on the sand
take a deep surrendering breath
face to the sky
let go of all the fight and struggle
and just listen to the soothing sound
of the water

it happens much like this
a tough week, bogged down by the waves
as they come, buckling your knees
but then…
a message arrives from someone trusted
and true
that remarkably describes exactly how
you’ve been feeling
the kindness of this, filters gently
through your skin

after many nights of restless sleep
you rise early, before the sun
and words suddenly and quite easily
begin to flow
and you know, you have begun to offer yourself
grace…

then, miracle of miracles
you get several messages from George Clooney
on your Instagram account
and you think to yourself,
I never realized before, that such an accomplished man
speaks almost illegibly
in
broken
English.. ♥
