Tamara Willems

ashes to ashes…

This morning the sky begins in
blue
but rather quickly is blanketed
in the fluffy white-ness
of a slightly cooler but,
nevertheless
beautiful day

the garden, in its summer glory
has received so much rain lately
it looks to be sitting
lush and
low

due to a falling tree last weekend
quite a large portion is now
filled
with a haphazard pile of branches and
debris

the worst for me at this point
upon inspection of the back garden
was to see that the neighbour, in taking down branches
with, it would seem
no regard at all for living things
has completely and devastatingly
trampled everything in sight
and what was…
now appears as

just
dirt

I stand, jaw on the ground
momentarily consumed
by unspeakable
loss

At the weekend we gathered
at the home of dear friends
to celebrate a life
gone too soon

we come together partially I suppose,
to see if we can’t
communally,
heal
from
loss

to see someone
reflected so, in the faces of his
children
his great pride, and his
joy
in the love and devotion of
a sister, who travels great loss
with grace
the ever patient, kind and caring comfort
of a mother and a father
nieces
and nephews
and friends,

and friends,
and
friends
who will carry this loss for some time,

yet still honour his memory
hopefully,
by allowing themselves to
expand
and to grow
in this love

coming together for a time
in the laughter

in old pictures, in stories, in memories
of things and of days
thought to last
forever

We do not know
we
cannot know
each twist and turn of our lives
or possibly even
when

we ourselves, or those we hold
dear
might fall

but, we are here to
exchange hello’s
share smiles, share tears
shake hands
and
embrace

and often we will hold on
just
a little bit longer

as never does it feel like we
are ready
ever

to let go.

Speak the words my friends,
say I love you
I appreciate you, and just how great it is
to see you

to be here
even for a time

to have mattered

to be love
to know love

to
in our lifetime
have been touched
by love
by devotion
by grace
by
kindness
by friendship

and to be remembered so

is all
that matters.

Rest peacefully my friend ♥
