Tamara Willems

light then, as a feather…

This morning, once again
absolute perfection in a summer’s day
well, probably not completely perfect, after all
isn’t that some kind of
silly
word
what I really mean to say is, temperature wise
sights and sounds wise
warm filtered sun, light gorgeous breeze
accompanying trill of the grasshoppers
my very first thoughts on stepping out
is so much gratitude
for this day

it is a holiday Monday, so…  there is that of course
and although the skies are quite hazy
because of forest fires to the north and west
and air quality is not great
here, in my garden, I still wander
astonished
by beautiful things

this morning I wonder if I have led you to believe
dear reader, that I walk acres and
acres
it’s really not so big, my garden
yet compared to some, I suppose
it might just be
I come each day to look at the exact same spaces

for a couple of days, I have been admiring
the water lettuce in the pond
I’m sure I have told you before, we have a still pond
well, two actually
no pumps, or filters or such
the pond really just takes care of itself
and all of this to say,
that the water is still
any movements come only from those who make it a home
or may
come to visit
or the breeze, of course
the water remains clear, like glass
and I am currently fascinated by the suspended
hanging feathery roots of the water lettuce
themselves great works of art

at the pond this morning,  a gift
a beautiful feather
medium to large in size
black to one side, with a bright yellow spine
the underside a gorgeous golden glow
with pale yellow being my very favourite colour
I wonder at the possibilities
of
a secret admirer

the sparrows have brought me great joy
as they are back in abundance
I replenish the feeders
and tell them, once again
how very happy I am
to have them
here

two hummingbird moths have been visiting
one is rusty and olive coloured, sort of brownish
and the other is black and yellow
clearwings
they come to the summer phlox
that,
thanks in part to a most curious puppy
now casually lean beside me, as if they might be
trying their best to
read
over my shoulder

I have told you of missing my camera
as fumbling to open my phone, while trying not to disturb
and getting a shot
is not quite
making the grade

if you have not had the chance to see one of these
magnificent little creatures
most often, it takes
just tuning in
to a slight hum beside you, not quite the
loud low buzz from the bumble
a little softer in wing

and then
just
to
notice

it’s right there

while above my head, said bumble
buzzingly buries himself deep
in a flower
as well, the almost silent flutter
of a gorgeous, magnificently large black swallowtail
a small subtle movement, and yesterday I spotted
a toad (these fellows have been keeping themselves cool)
the sudden splash to surface
of a bright orange fish
a spider sails on light air, across my line of vision
invisible

land him
on my laptop

yesterday, I ran into a friend at the market
unexpected as it was
I was friendly, but so terribly awkward
of course, this is me…
so I try to let that one go
on the breeze
as
well

sat here
I am thinking again of ways to send love
out in to the world
and to you

(as this, is a way of receiving)

and I’m wishing you well
May you be well

May you find joy, and peace
and wonderful things
to astonish you

May you notice
and be kind

May you be conscious of the love
that flows through you

And May you always
keep yourself open,

do please
keep yourself open

to receive ♥
