Mayday, May… day…

Today, an absolutely gorgeous, gorgeous day
and how could I not
tell you
about the garden

it’s May, and what
I ask you
could sound lovelier

last week, we had a call from the Horticultural Society
asking if we were still interested in
making ours a stop on this year’s
garden tours
“still” being the key word here
one might recall that last year we were asked
to participate, as a way of offering
‘other ways to garden’
we being
rather
wild
in nature

my husband kindly declined once again,
also mentioning that the playful exuberance
of a young boxer pup in our lives,
has made fast work of most of the gardens in the back
but we had a laugh, imagining reactions of
more traditional gardeners, who might wonder
just what on earth it was
they were viewing
here

today, anyway
I come out to enjoy what we do have here
the apple blossoms are just magnificent
varying shades of pink and full, full
to bursting
their sweet scent softly perfumes the spring air
just as enamoured as I
bees are making the trees come alive with a low
steady hum and buzzzzzzzz

the little wren is today singing her heart out
in the back
and closer to the pond, I hear a subtle, ‘gung’
that makes me think maybe
someone very special might have returned
and sure enough…
sometimes you just have to stand
quietly for a few minutes
in the sun
to watch the bees
and then, when you look down
there, a lovely little miracle of life
is sat
right before your eyes

our frog is back

and I am absolutely delighted
by this

I putter around a bit looking for survivors
of the flowering kind
trim a few shrubs
a couple of my roses appear to have
had a rough winter
I freshen up the bird baths while said mischievous pup
chews
on the barely budding snowball bush
my other fellow sits quietly in the chair
in the
sun

deciding I might join him
I watch the cardinals and blue jays
high up in the spruce tree
listen to the wren and a woodpecker who sounds busy
in the trees behind me
I turn my face to the sun
and send my gratitude out into the sky

almost immediately
it
catches
the breeze
sprouts wings

and takes flight ♥

May you be well
