Tamara Willems

do watch your step…

Another gorgeous day begins
its
unfolding

of course it will start with a quiet read
where I am tucking in to my
summer read of Middlemarch by George Eliot
outside it appears to be
shaping up as a bright
and beauty-filled day
seeing the bird feeders have been
gladly emptied
after the dogs and I have wandered about a little
the first task,
is
at hand

it is rather glorious to hear birdsong in the mornings
and all day suits me fine, as well

the first stop always is the pond
I say good mornings to the fish, and look
for the frog
check to see if any other visitors might possibly have
wandered in overnight (ever hopeful)
as our froggy has been calling
and seems to chime in each time
the dogs set in to
barking

I see a few phlox are beginning to flower
and I watch the bees
marvel at how big the clover leaves are getting
and how many wild things are quite quickly
filling up the vegetable patch
other than
vegetables (ha, ha!)
currants seem quite prolific this year
still at the lime-ish green stage
great patches of brown where gardens used to flourish
the dogs have worn down
by raucous play
young fluffy sparrows are everywhere
wee chipmunks, not yet quite cautious
enough
torment the pups
venturing in for stray peanuts

at the weekend, our new neighbour
to one side
thinking he was being thoughtful and
kind
decided to mow down our front boulevard
before lovely husband could
let him know
that over-grown was by intention
as our Wildlife Habitat Certified and Acts of Restorative
Kindness to the Earth signs
might indicate
we are fully committed to growing less lawn
as he is a really nice young man, he felt awful
but we assured him, no harm was done
and we did appreciate
his kind thought

also last weekend, lovely husband sent me a
real estate listing
it was for a little house, that once had been
our first
little house
as
just married’s

as much had changed in the over thirty years
since it had been ours
we poured over pictures
remembering what
had been
where
most of its charm and original character
stripped away
updated for modern living, I suppose
selling now, for seven or eight times
what we had paid
or even sold
for
still served as very fond memories
it really was
a dear little house
to
begin in

hard to believe it is now almost
June

I have a special little project
I’ve been slowly cooking up
and all fingers crossed
I will have something to tell
soon

I hope you are well
and finding yourself somehow
muddling through,

as
am
I

in light and in love

I look forward again
to meeting you

right
here.

and do keep an eye out… for fragile things
