My day off,
A much relished lie in. Waking my jaw is tight, sore right arm and this problematic finger is firmly in lock down. Clearly concerns for friends, and life’s uncertainties have entered my subconscious.
and I am feeling ..
this
Coffee is waiting, although my husband is long gone, off to the day’s commitments, he does leave me this blessing… Love.
Things are also awaiting me today. Household things, laundry, daughters, bills. A check in with the lovely Shawna Lemay, whose beautiful words and deliciously simple yet magnificent pictures in Calm Things, never fail to bolster my spirits.
As well as, the equally wonderful Jena Schwartz, whose email to me starts: ‘Hello Beautiful Writer Friend.’ – and while this is not just ‘specifically’ for me – I take it with a large smile, as a greeting from a kind friend, as I am sure it was intentioned and I feel blessed.
but first…
I leave this all behind, and head to the pond.
it’s been very hot, and today everything appears quite quiet. At first glance, a few things need tidying. The humid weather brings the string algae into full bloom, leaves, and needles from the pine have scattered the surface. The yucca has dropped it’s beautiful globe like white flowers, after a brief beating of wind and rain, and they are beginning to brown in the water. The lily radiating beauty just a day ago, now lies spent, nodding on the waters surface, while beside her the next in line begins to venture forth.
A barely visible swish of the tail can be seen just below one of the lily pads, serving as a much needed umbrella against the sun’s brilliant rays.
No toads seem to be about today, just yet. It’s much too hot for sitting by the pool, or to even think of leaving cool damp comfort behind. The boatman rows languidly across the water. He’s in no great hurry to arrive anywhere other than the next lily pad for shade. Mr. Limpet briefly pokes his head up through the hornwort, so our eyes can meet and we can greet each other, smiling.
Such a blessing this breeze, which brings the silver curve of a spiderweb, dancing and shimmering like a large sparkling smile in front of me, tugging gently at the corners until it is largely reflecting my own! A wispy bit of white is slowly sailing across the blue sky, in almost a perfect line looking like beautiful words of script across a liquid canvas.
Everything seems to have slowed,
to gentle…
and then the glorious hum of the cicada, the sound of summer
breaks the silence
the unwelcomed sight of a Japanese beetle as it lands on the hyacinth, makes me cringe, as I know his intentions are to devour
the loud rumble of the neighbour’s motorcycle, disturbs the calm
and the crows start in loudly to discuss matters at hand, as if they should be the only voices heard
the door opens,
then closes ..
someone is looking for me
my tummy rumbles, and I suppose it is time to get on with the day
but what a blessing
to just sit…
and I afford myself this luxury
as it allows me to
enter into
peace
and for peace
to enter
into
me ♥
