Tamara Willems

to be with you here…

to me August has a feel
no matter how I try
to not
acknowledge
it is there
tapping it’s fingers
on my brain

there just isn’t enough
time
it’s fleeting
seasons will
change
the most joyous
will
fade

it is not entirely mournful
not my
attitude
it’s just
there
in the distance
drumming

and so
I try
to clear, to empty
to silence

deep breath in

let’s just go out
in search
of
simple

the joys of a hot summer day
to myself
when the heat is such
that there is
a very real need
for sitting

still

and you must know
just how very well
I can wear
this

to the pond, where a toad is sitting in the sun
while the fish
are madly racing
bumping into plants, tails flipping
above the water
a sudden yet graceful plop
and a splash
has me searching
for the swimmer to surface

here
it is necessary to sit
rather still
or you miss
all of
this

the Blue’s come and go
beautifully free
five of them in all
they are not in the least
bothered
by me

I fill the bird bath
and they wait
anxiously
in the branches
above my head

I step back to watch
them gather

to my left
I see Chippy
and in front of me
the grey squirrel

I can see red’s
and pinks
oranges, purples
and yellows
luscious, luscious
greens
and blue, as far as the eye can see

the sun warms my skin
and soothes me
with the light scent
of coconut
the butterfly’s dance
and slowly I close
my eyes

breathing gently
breathing beauty
breathing Joy

I smile

and with much Gratitude
August,
I feel this too ♥
