In honour of a friend today and with Father’s Day approaching, as I know he was a Very Proud Dad – to you Cowboy
in fond remembrance;
When news trickles through that someone is gone..
that a friend has left the landscape of your ‘formative years’
Someone whose presence was felt at beaches and gravel pits
at ringers and parties
of teenage angst and carefree forevers
it sits in your head and in your heart
by way of a dull ache
maybe you haven’t heard correctly
we’re all still so young, so much road ahead..
it’s not right, it sits awkwardly in your throat,
and just behind your eyes..
it makes thoughts swirl and your stomach flip
it feels heavy and cumbersome
but
I don’t want this for you, my friend
my thoughts of you are not heavy,
or awkward, or sorrowful
my thoughts of you
are of a wonderful sideways grin
and an unmistakable laugh
a twinkle in the eye
a bit of devilish charm
I can’t actually picture you any other way
that is the image that stays with me
that’s the one to hold on to
that’s the you for me,
you blessed the journey for many of us
with that smile,
that laugh
that twinkle
and we will remember you
just as you are,
and will remain
cherished. ♥~ tamara willems
